Since I damaged the pins on the ribbon cable from my screen, I decided to take the good T-Con board and put it back in my dads TV, along with all the other boards from my TV, hoping that would solve what we thought was either a dead main board or power supply board. I figured it would be easier than taking the chassis off of both TVs to get at the other ends of the ribbon cables to replace just those. No luck. The power light comes on, and the screen briefly, and dimly lights up dark blue, then it shuts off again.

If the panel is dead, then I have to try switching all the boards back to my TV, and taking the chassis off so I can swap those cables. But I feel like a dead panel wouldn’t respond at all. I dunno. I hate this shit, but if I spend hundreds of dollars on a new TV without being sure that both these are dead, it’ll drive me crazy.

I would have dropped it at a l ocal electronics repair shop and let them have a look... or just dropped it from the balcony.

Speaking of, my neighbor had a houseguest who had overstayed their welcome and was being an asshole about the tv volume at night. So after an argument he ripped his tv off of the stand and threw it off the second floor balcony onto the lawn.

40" LG.

The nex t morning he goes down to retrieve it, brings it back upstairs, plugs it in and it works fine. There is still dirt and grass poking out of the crack where the panel meets the bezel, haha.

There is no local electronics store unfortunately, at least not one with a good reputation.

Holy crap, that is impressive

While the overstaying welcome part is certainly a problem, I dont understand why complainin g about tv volume would make someone an asshole. Would think its the other way around since its considerate not to blast a TV at night same as its considerate not to make a bunch of noise in the morning either. Haha that is a hilarious way to handle the situation though, impressed how durable that TV was!

It was the houseguest who wouldn’t stop blaring the tv, and refused to turn it down. She also ate all his food, wouldn’t get out when told she was no longer welcome, and told him she lived there now and he could move if he didn’t like it. Psych issues. L ong story short she’s in the ward now after being dragged away by the fuzz, multiple times.

Surrey isn’t that far, but it’s far enough away for me to try fixing it myself. If I didn’t essentially have a parts TV, I probably would’ve tried a repair shop, but I dunno. It looks like these are garbage anyways when it comes to longevity so maybe I’m wasting my time and even if I fix it, it’ll die again in a couple months.

I would have dropped it at a local electronics repair shop and let them have a look...

Seems really unlikely that professional repairs would really be economical. I think this is a 43" TV, and I mean I just bought a 43" Toshiba 4K screen for $240 , and I’m sure you can get a 1080p one for less than that. Saw a 55" Philips for $320 the other day if you wanted to go bigger. Between labor and parts, maybe you could be less than that, but you’d still be left with an old somewhat outdated screen and who knows what else would fail next.

So yeah, maybe off the balcony would be for the best...

I would venture on two things here... since you have power light, power supply might be fine.. so it could be the back light, or the ballast.

Now, I do not know what I am talking about, so take that with a texas sized grain of salt. I have never actually fixed a screen of any sort... well back in the day, CRT monitors - i was pretty good at hitting degause button
